Vice Chairman, J&K Tourism Development Corporation, Rafi Ahmad Mir has urged the British Government to lift its adverse travel advisory on Kashmir, which categorise it "unsafe" for the visitors from the United Kingdom.
Mir in a letter to British Deputy High Commissioner Alexander Evans, who was recently on an official visit to Jammu and Kashmir, has said that such advisories impact the international tourist influx and cause fall in economy of the state and subsidiary industries such as handlooms, handicrafts and services.
He also invited the British High Commission and travel , trade stakeholders of the United Kingdom for network meets and interactions with J&K Government to promote tourism and strengthen bilateral ties.
Mir also highlighted "the efforts of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and her government for sustainable peace and development of the Jammu and Kashmir and urged the British High Commissioner that it needs encouragement and hand holding.
Mir said that the chief minister wants that these advisories should be lifted.
Mir stressed in the letter that 2017 has been designated as UN International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development and at the same time India and the United Kingdom enter a progressive alliance of bilateral ties, so it was imperative to promote Jammu and Kashmir tourism in the United Kingdom.
