BRO working tirelessely to clear snow on Sonmarg -Leh National Highway

Ganderbal: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) team is working against on rough period to throw open the snow-blocked Srinagar-Leh Highway started clearance work from Gagengeer a forest area of Ganderbal since earlier this month.
As per the reports the work got impacted several places due to heavy accumulation of snow, the BRO team assigned the task of clearing the snow on highway with heavy snow cutter machines on the road, which remains covered under heavy snow measuring up to several feet's of snow, few days back the work got suspended nearly three days since its clearance due to fresh snowfall, now resume its clearance work. The heavy snow on road cutting off Leh from the rest of the country for almost five months, as per the reports the road from Gagengeer upto 7 km (Hung) one of the Avalanche prone area of Sonamarg has been cleared and if weather remaining pleasant then it take less time to make the road functional upto Sonamarg in first phase for vehicles.
“We feel very happy because it will help the locals to earn livelihood and will attract more tourists towards the beautiful resort of Sonamarg, sled owners said.
The Sonamarg highway was closed for traffic in December last year after high altitude areas of the Valley including the 11,578-foot high Zojila Pass experienced heavy snowfall, which is a yearly occurrence. With the improvement in weather condition seems tourists arriving, yet someone's who come to visit here have to return from Gagangeer and not allowed to visit forward, due to the road closure on Sonamarg-Leh National highway.
