Jaharkhand: A 20-year-old Muslim man identified as Mohammad Shalik was brutally killed by villagers in Jaharkhand's Gumla district for being in love with a Hindu women.
The villagers allegedly tied 20-year-old Muslim man to a tree and thrashed him for hours, leading to his death,police said on Friday.
Mohammad Shalik, a resident of Raza Colony in Gumla town was allegedly in a relationship with a Hindu women of a nearby village, for more than a year, sources said.
It is said that Shalik went Gumla town to meet the girl and later dropped her home on scooty.
It is then a group of neighbours saw Shalik and surrounded him,tied him to tree and assaulted him for hours.
Shalik's father Mohammad Minhaj said that when he came to know about the incident he informed police and reached the spot, where Shalik was found critically injured, Shalik was than taken to Sadar hospital. The hospital authority referred Shalik to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi but Shalik succumbed to his injuries.
Shalik's murder triggered tensions in Gumla town but police thwarted any violence by deploying hundreds of personal and situation is under control.
