A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET) module in the Chenab Valley set up with an aim of reviving terrorism in the area has been busted, said the Police.
Following an attack in Doda District last week, during which two special police officers (SPOs) were injured with one subsequently scumming to his injuries , a special investigation team, headed by Doda police chief Mohd Shabir, was set up to investigate tge firing incident at Tanta police post in Doda District on May 7 and after visiting the spot, conducted preliminary investigation along with a team of forensic experts.
"The Special Investigation Team (SIT) picked up some suspects and apprehended Abdul Rashid Harga a resident of Tanta Village ex LET militant who had surrendered in 2008," the sources said.
Mr Harga confessed his involvement in the firing incident and disclosed name of his two associates, namely Shoket Ali his younger brother and Akhtar Magray, both residents of Tanta, the sources said.
According to the source, Harga was in contact with Bashir Ahmed who was earlier working in the Territorial Army and whose nephew was a SPO in Doda, and asked him to arrange a weapon for him.
Altaf Ahmed managed to steal an AK-47 rifle along with ammunition from District police line in January 2017 and handed it over to his uncle.
Meanwhile, Harga was in direct contact with his pakistani handler, Mohd Amin alias Haroon of LET.
"On may 7 , whem only 3 police men were on duty at Tanta post, Harga attacked the post in which 2 SPO's were injured ," the source said.
After the investigation by Special Investigation team five people have been arrested and arms have been seized, police sources told IANS.
