Work on ODF Panchyats to be expedited
Ramban May 22: District Development Commissioner Ramban Mohammad Aijaz reviewed progress of anti-polythene campaign of Rural Development Department (RDD) and Municipal Committees (MC) being observed across the district as part of Swacchta Abhyan.
ADDC, Ravinder Nath Sadhgu, CPO, Uttam Singh, ACD, Jhangir Khanday, BDOs, EO of MCs, and other officers of concerned departments were present.
While reviewing the progress of banning polythene by the concerned department, the DDC underscored the need for close coordination among government functionaries and locals to curb the menace of polythene use.
He asked the officers to make the campaign a regular feature to consolidate its gains. On the occasion, the DDC was informed that large quantity of polythene was seized during the campaign and penalty was also imposed on violators.
The ACD informed in the meeting that near 5 quintal polythene has been collected from different place besides realising penalty from the erring traders.
The DDC directed ACD and EOs of MCs to gear up their men and machinery to collect all the waste polythene lying on different spots in their jurisdiction within prescribed time. He said strict measures are being taken by the Government to ensure ban on Polythene in the State. He said officials have been asked to immediately stop entry of polythene into the district and increase vigil to ensure enforcement of the ban.
Meanwhile, he also reviewed the progress of the most important objective of the Swachh Bharat or Clean India Mission to end open defecation. He directed the officers to redouble their efforts for achieving the targets of Open Defecation Free (ODF) panchyats status.
