Resident doctors of Government Medical College (GMC) Associated Hospitals went on a strike in protest of deduction of their salary, hitting out-patient department (OPD) services at the tertiary care hospitals here today.
The doctors have threatened to extend the strike to hospital emergencies as well in case their demand of ‘equal pay for equal work’ was not met.
On Thursday, junior and senior residents of associated hospital of GMC Srinagar withdrew from OPDs of the hospitals to protest a recent order by the medical college administration that had affected a decrease in their monthly salary. “Yesterday, when the salary was transferred into our accounts, we were shocked to realize that every residents salary was less by about Rs 5000,” Dr Irfan Qayoom, a senior resident working at GB
