20 bovines rescued at Toll Post Lakhanpur

LAKHANPUR: Officials of Toll Post Lakhanpur and Police Department Lakhanpur on Sunday foiled a major bovine smuggling bid and rescued 20 bovines.

According to report, the vigilant staff at Toll Post, Lakhanpur intercepted one vehicle bearing registration No JK02AB-5632 coming from Punjab towards Jammu.

The offending vehicle consigned by Billa and Company Mukerian was subjected to physical check when reported at the Toll Post for clearance. As per the documents, the vehicle was carrying potato vide GR No. 10043 issued by M/s Prem & Co, Narwal Yard No 6, Jammu-180015. However, on physical checking the vehicle was found carrying 20 bovines. The staff of the Toll Post Lakhanpur in co-ordination with Police Department Lakhanpur nabbed the vehicle and rescued 20 bovines.

In this regard, a case FIR No 10/2018 under Section 188 RPC was registered at Police Station Lakhanpur.

The whole operation was conducted by the joint team headed by Excise and Taxation Officers Virinder Gupta, Sandeep Gupta, Sajjad Sofi and Showkat Hayat Mattoo, SHO Police Station Lakhanpur, Kulbir Choudhary along with Inspector Dheeraj Kumar and Inspector Sushil Khajuria, Sub-Inspector Surinder Singh Bagal, Excise Guards Tarsem Singh, Riaz Ahmed, Om Dutt and the team of Police Station Lakhanpur under the direct supervision of Suleman Choudhary, SSP Kathua and Vishesh Paul Mahajan, Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur.

Excise Commissioner, Javed Ahmad Khan appreciated the efforts of the excise and police staff in foiling the major bid to smuggle bovine animals and enjoined upon them to work with more zeal and in coordination with other departments/ agencies.
